Beschreibung
Samples from the drilling and the dome of Unzen will be deformed with a unique high temperature high pressure press to monitor, in situ, the rheology and seismogenic character of the sample. The development of an ultra-high resolution neutron computed tomography system will provide insight into the process of magma fragmentation. It is hoped that a better understanding of magma failure will lead towards a first ever deterministic prediction model for Unzen type dome building volcanos with a view to disaster mitigation.
